My One Word

Have you read “My One Word”? If not, click HERE to read a little about the concept.

I have actually chosen a word the last 2 years (2013–Focused & 2014–Peace) and I wanted to do it again this year. While reading the devotional in my Bible about it this year, I was contemplating all kinds of words. I wanted to listen to God and see what word He felt I needed this year. My One Word for 2015 is CHANGE.

Here is a little about how I felt God was leading me to this word:

Obviously, you generally pick this word at the beginning of a new year. People are typically very motivated at this time and are hoping to look down their list of “Resolutions” and start checking things off. Of course I, like most of you, have a list of things I would like to do/accomplish in 2015. A set of goals if you will. A lot of my time is spent on accomplishing those goals and then in a few weeks when I get off track beating myself up because I have failed at this or that. Sound familiar?

So, this year, the word that kept coming to my mind was CHANGE. This is the definition:

verb (used with object), changed, changing.
1. to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone: to change one’s name; to change one’s opinion;
to change the course of history.

2. to transform or convert (usually followed by into):
The witch changed the prince into a toad.

But what I want to do this year is focus more on even the seemingly little changes and celebrate those! That’s what motivates you! What happens when you start something for a “resolution”–like reading your Bible front to back or starting a new exercise program or using a budget–and then you miss a day here or there and then more frequently until you stop all together? You begin beating yourself up, don’t you? Saying things like “I knew I couldn’t stick with it again.” Or “Why do I even try?”. But, the truth is, even if you do something for a short amount of time you have still accomplished more than not even trying! You have still made a CHANGE!

So, this year I will be celebrating all the CHANGE in my life–big or small! I still have that little “list” of things I want to do, but I’m more focused on something that changes me than checking off a list.

My One Word

I told you the other day about a friend of mine who blogged on her site about this book. I used some of my iTunes gift card to purchase it for my iPhone!

After reading her post I had prayerfully considered my word for 2013 and decided (with God’s prompting) that my word should be FOCUSED. Today, I read the first chapter and journaled the questions. I believe the questions are much more revealing about why I (& most people) fail when we make “resolutions”.

Back to my motto for the year “New Year/New Me”….I’m ready to be different and better than ever! With God’s help, I am going to be a different (& better) person at the end of 2013 than I was at the beginning!

Some upcoming things that I will be discussing on my blog:

Meal Planning
Budgeting
Heartbreak
and more on Organizing, My One Word & SSMT
